So Joe: May 2012
So Joe,
I have been getting a lot of homework from my teachers, and since it’s the end of the year, I also have so many tests to study for! What can I do so that I’m not stressed out?
--????
Dear ????,
Although you may be upset that your teachers are giving you homework and tests, they are not trying to torture you! They have seen you work throughout the year, and they must know that you are capable of completing all your homework, while still being prepared for your tests. Just manage your time well, give yourself set times for homework and studying. Remember that tests aren’t for you to cram a bunch of information into your hand; they’re just to test your knowledge. It’s all stuff that you’ve learned this year, but revising doesn’t hurt.

So Joe: April 2012
So Joe,
At lunch and even during class, nobody listens to the teacher. They are always playing or talking behind their back
--Listen up!
Dear Listen,
You should ask them to be quiet. If they continue to mess around tell the teacher! Don't be afraid of being a tattle tale, everyone should know how to behave correctly, and if not, it's about time they learn! The teacher will handle it. Don't be afraid to bring it to their attention, but remember that it's not your job to tell the students to cut it out.

A special advice column, this month and maybe the next?
So Joe,
My teacher is putting me under a lot of pressure for a big test coming up. Is there a way for me to relax no matter how stressed I get?
--Pressured Pupil
Dear Pupil,
If you get nervous like that I would advise you to eat a really good snack and keep some coins in your pocket. It makes you feel smarter and like you know everything, because if you think you can, you can! Study about every day and have a good sleep. That should help a lot. All of your stress is in your head. So just relax and take a few deep breaths and just ask your teacher for some time to think.

So Stephanie,
Recently, people have been excluding me at snack and playtime. If I ask to play with them, they will just tell me to go away or say it is only a game for the number of people they currently have playing. How can I make people include me?
--Suffering Student
Dear Student,
I’m sorry to here that people won’t include you! A few things you can do to try and help is:
1) Talk to the people who are excluding. Tell them how you are feeling and ask them why they won’t include you. And be sure to ask nicely, don’t yell at them.
2) If they still won’t include you, tell a teacher. Don’t worry, you’re not a tattle-tale, you are just trying to enjoy school and help people rectify their mistakes. Good luck!

So Stephanie,
I have seen kids share food at lunch and the teacher tells them to stop. But they do it behind the teachers’ backs! What should I do?
--Finger Food
Dear Food,
When you see kids sharing behind the teachers’ backs, just inform the teacher, and they should put a stop to it. It’s especially important to not share food during this time of year because of the flu and other sicknesses flying around. Be sure to wash your hands before and after you eat.

So Stephanie,
Whenever we play tag at break, I notice that instead of just tagging them, the tagger seems to tackle or
grab the person instead of just tapping them. How can I get people to play nicely so no one gets hurt?
--Touchy Taggers
Dear Touchy,
The point of playing tag is to have fun. I suggest that before you all start playing, you have a "meeting" and
explain all the rules, including that the tagger only taps them. If the tagger does tackle or grab the person,
there should be some sort of punishment, so they don't do it again. Maybe they aren't allowed to play the
rest of the game or something along those lines. If someone does get hurt, just be sure to apologize and get
a teacher if needed be. Good luck and I hope you have a safe game.

Dear Struggling,
First of all, get organized.
Second of all, get organized.
Third of all, get organized!
In other words get a good, detailed organization planner and write your assignments in it. Highlight them when you finish, or put a √. You’ll be organized in no time

So Stephanie,
I just found out that the ERB tests are coming up next week. This is my first time taking them, and my teacher told me that the test is 70 pages long! I am sooo scared that I'll do bad! How can I be sure to do a great job?
Sincerely, Terrified of Tests!
Dear Terrified,
Don't worry! The point of ERB tests is to find out what we already know, so you don't even have to study! Just get a great night's sleep before each test, eat a delicious and nutritious breakfast, and come to school knowing that YOU ARE SMART, and YOU CAN DO IT! Also, remember that we just take one small section of the ERBs at a time, so you don't have to worry about taking all 70 pages at once. If you start to get nervous or distracted during the test, just close your eyes, take a deep breath, and remind yourself that your amazing brain power can do anything.
Good luck!

So Stephanie,
Now that we’re back from Fall Break, I keep forgetting to do my homework. I know I need to get good grades, but I just keep forgetting to do my work! Also, when I do go to do my homework, I can’t find it. Is there any way to get me back on track?
Sincerely, Messy Minded
Dear Messy,
School is important. Focusing is hard but if you want to do well you are going to have to do your homework. A good way to stay on top of school work is by being organized. For example, keep your English papers in an English folder, or try to make sure you know where all of your papers are. That way when you go to do your homework, you can find it easily.
